Isn't he cute?

He was drawn using Inkscape for the purpose of my iPhone having a new wallpaper :-P. Visit my Deviant Art profile for the full version.

It's that time of year again and A List Apart is running it's survey for all website makers. Whether you are a designer, developer, information architect, project manager, writer, editor, marketer, or anyone else who dabbles in the web you should definitely participate.

I just added another wallpaper to my Deviant Art profile. It is a vector piece titled 'Winter Glow' and was drawn using Inkscape.

I'm not sure where the inspiration for this one came from; It is winter here but it isn't snowing and it certainly isn't glowing :-P.

I have posted up two new graphic designs to my Deviant Art profile.

The first I posted this morning after drawing it up last night. I'm not sure where the idea came from but I felt like drawing a super hero standing atop a building during a storm... so that is what I drew. He was drawn in Inkscape over the course of about an hour. I had several versions of the drawing over that time (one of which has a bat-symbol style torch in the clouds) but I settled on this one.

This one I drew after seeing this piece of work by Pilpls. His drawing was bright and happy so I wanted to see what I could do with a similar drawing but with a dark and mysterious feel. The result was Eye of Eternity, drawn in GIMP with my Wacom.

Only 1 year to go until Kristen and I get Married!!! Now that we have broken the year mark, time should fly until the big day :-P.

I drew up the graphic above as part of a wedding site we are making for our guests (our theme for the wedding in winter... even if it is summer in December in Australia). The penguins are SVG, made in Inkscape, so I might make up a wedding wallpaper and put them up on DeviantArt.

I just uploaded some new art onto my Deviant Art profile.

I was having a play with my Wacom a few days ago and started drawing a dragon. Since then I have been adding touches to it here and there whenever I got bored of other things. I had been working on a background for the dragon to sit on but I thought I'd upload it as it was for now.

Hope you like it ;-)

I just added a new image to my Deviant Art profile. It is a random graphic I drew after having a look at a tutorial on drawing tentacles in Inkscape.

I just signed up to Deviant Art. To check out my gallery go to my profile page. It only has one image in there at the moment :-P.

I got a new 6x8" Wacom Graphire4 yesterday. After finishing off an assignment for uni this afternoon I got a chance to hook it up and have a play.

It is incredibly easy to install a Wacom in Ubuntu. It is so easy in fact, most of it has already been done for you. There are only two steps left:

Enter this into Terminal:
sudo apt-get install wacom-tools

Once that finishes, enter this:
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find these lines and uncomment them (remove the '#' from the start of the line):
# Uncomment if you have a wacom tablet
#InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"
#InputDevice "cursor" "SendCoreEvents"
#InputDevice "eraser" "SendCoreEvents"

Now log out and log back in and your Wacom should be working fine.

To get pressure sensitivity working in GIMP, fire it up and go to File->Preferences and then select Input Devices, then Configure Extended Input Devices.... Set each device (eraser, cursor, stylus) to enabled. Click Save and then Ok. You should now have pressure sensitivity enabled. You can try it out by selecting one of the drawing tools and defining its pressure sensed behaviour.

As for me, I had a bit of a play with my new wacom and got this:

I think I need some more practice :-P

Kristen and I got a new fish today so I thought I would make up a new wallpaper to commemorate the occasion ;-)

After realising that I hadn't updated my Inkscape in a while I decided to checkout Inkscape.org to get the latest development version. I got the most recent autopackage release (inkscape200709061136.package) that I could find and installed it. The first thing I noticed was the new node sculpting tool. I can see that it might be handy but I don't see me using it all that often.

The biggest thing, however, is something that I have been waiting for for some time: Dockable Toolboxes!

Toolboxes can be iconified as well which collapses them into the side panel with just an icon and their name.

Media tools from the likes of Adobe and Macromedia have had dockable toolboxes for a while now so it was only a matter of time before something as awesome as Inkscape decided to give them a try.
